Thumbs Down to The Awakening

Hmm.. well that was a waste of a couple days of reading.. (and 10 years of "wanting" to read that book)... First of all.. i guess i was hoping it would get juicier.. but it was all kind of boring.. Secondly, I really didn't get the ending.. I had to look it up on SparkNotes.. and well, I won't post it here.. but I didn't realize what happened at all.. I guess it makes more of an ending.. (since I thought there was NO ending).. but now that I know the ending.. it makes me even more irritated with the whole book.. Third.. I just really didn't like the whole plot/theme of the book.. Even in my younger days when I claimed to be all feminist and stuff, (My first car had a bumper sticker that said "Feminism is the radical idea that women are people")... I was always very pro-family/marriage.. The main character in the book was well, not.. Even aside from her falling in love someone that wasn't her husband.. she just struck me as, well.. a really crappy mother.. which.. as you know.. is something that aggravates me..I am not in any place to read about a woman who resents her children..

Gone Baby Gone is next... another book with a terrible mother.. but at least I KNOW what happens in it..so I can prepare myself to be pissed off.
